Summary:

We are currently seeking a full-time, Director, Pre-Press for our fast-growing, digitally printed label and packaging company. The position will preferably base from our St. Louis location and will report directly to the Vice President Operations.

The Director, Pre-Press is responsible for overseeing the Pre-Press team including providing strong leadership, training and mentoring. In addition, the Director will coordinate functional workload to ensure a timely, successful, and accurate final product.

Ideal candidates have extensive technical experience in pre-press operations, file preparation, and color management, and in addition are self-motivated, possess critical-thinking skills, willing to challenge the status quo, and demonstrate a positive attitude.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop and implement standards across Prepress teams.
  • Establish consistent templates for design file ingestion into Prepress utilizing common layers and organization to maximize automation.
  • Work cross-functionally with Prepress, and project management to ensure timely execution of incoming designs and prioritization of programs.
  • Assist Pre-Press teams with the development of print production separations to maximize printability - execution of white plates, die cuts, foil stamping/cold foils, spot color interaction with design elements and substrates.
  • Introduce, test, and implement evolving methods for automation, emerging print technology and process improvement across direct and downstream teams.
  • Oversee and develop the prepress teams across our 7 locations.
  • Ensure art files and proofs submitted to external/internal customers meet quality and accuracy expectations
  • Collaborate with Sales/CSR teams to ensure proper development of new clients including training/education on art requirements and color expectations.
  • Lead functional meetings to maintain a positive work environment, discuss roadblocks, and identify opportunities for improvement within and between other departments.
  • Assist in troubleshooting quality and color issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Continue developing and updating department Standard Work Instructions (SWIs)

Skills

  • Familiarity with Automation Engine, RIP & CMS software, ArtPro+ and/or PackEdge, DFE, and HP Indigo Digital Presses
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to learn quickly, work under pressure, and adopt new technologies in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective at managing time while being detail oriented.

Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of experience in Pre-Press in the printing industry.
  • At least 5 years of experience managing people.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent work experience.
  • High school diploma or GED required
