Overview
Herzog Railroad Services, Inc. is currently seeking a Field Safety Director in the United States to join our team.
Duties and Responsibilities:

- Responsible for Safety compliance at Herzog.
- Conducts Safety audits and inspections and develops reports.
- Conducts Safety trainings (First-Aid/CPR/AED, Railroad specific, etc) and accident/incident investigations in a timely manner and develops reports
- Conducts Job Safety Analysis and Hazard Analysis.
- Ensures compliance with Corporate Safety Directives and Procedures.
- Leads routine safety conference calls and meetings with employees at all levels.
- Assists with drug and alcohol screenings.
- Initiates safety improvements.
- Completes various projects regarding Occupational Safety and Health as assigned.
- Report quarterly safety performance to company leadership during executive meetings.
- Safety programs or manuals for HRSI or HSI (equipment specific, company specific, Emergency Action Plans).
- Any tracker or spreadsheet you used to manage the safety programs (injury logs, recordables, MTAV tracker, any safety stats, etc.).
- Regular and consistent engagement, participation and promotion of Herzog's Culture and its essential behaviors are a requirement for this position.
- Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are a requirement for this position.
- Other duties as assigned.
Travel Requirements: - This position requires extensive and/or prolonged travel.
Qualifications: - High School diploma or equivalent.
- Safety Management or related degree or nearing completion of degree a plus.
- 5 years of experience on the Railroad preferred.
- Strong knowledge of federal and provincial regulations as it relates to safety and health and other applicable regulations.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office platform.
- Meet deadlines and finish projects in a timely manner.
- Must possess or obtain a valid passport.
- Prior experience with drug and alcohol screenings a plus.
- Experience as a railroad/construction safety trainer, preferred, but not required.
- Excelling problem solving, planning, and organization skills.
- Ability to support and implement organizational change.
- Ability to function independently in a multi-task environment.
Pre-Employment Requirements: - Pass and maintain e-RAILSAFE pre-employment background check and safety certification.
- Subject to motor vehicle report review.
- Maintain valid driver's license and endorsements as required per position.
- Pass pre-employment physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen due to the safety sensitive nature of this position.
- Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.
Physical Requirements: The physical demands described below must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential job functions of this role. This is a non-exhaustive overview of the physical requirements of this job.
- Perform light work, occasionally exerting up to 20 pounds of force.
- Able to walk on uneven surfaces.
- Occasionally ascend/descend step ladders and/or stairs.
- Regularly sit and stand for an extended period of time.
- Regularly kneel, bend, and squat.
- Must successfully pass color/vision examinations as required by the position.
- Must be able to hear and distinguish auditory signals as required by the position.
- Able to work in conditions with loud noise; work on/around heavy/moving machinery.
- Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, and sleet).
