SUMMARY
The Director of Accounting is a strategic financial leader responsible for operational accounting, fixed assets, revenue accounting, and accounts payable across a large, multi-site healthcare organization generating more than $3 billion in annual revenue. Operating in a fully remote environment, this role ensures the accuracy, integrity, and scalability of financial information in a complex, distributed structure. A critical mandate of this position is advancing the organization's digital accounting capabilities—including automation, workflow optimization, data governance, and ERP modernization. The Director leads a team of accounting professionals across the General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Fixed Asset, and Revenue Accounting functions, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and technical excellence. This leader partners closely with IT, FP&A, Revenue Cycle, and Operations to accelerate close timelines, improve data quality, enhance visibility, and maintain compliance with U.S. GAAP and regulatory requirements.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential function listed below.
Financial Close & Reporting
Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes for assigned areas, ensuring accurate, timely, and well-controlled financial reporting.
Review, approve, and analyze monthly balance sheet reconciliations and key accounting schedules.
Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP, company policies, and healthcare regulatory requirements.
Serve as a technical expert on revenue recognition (ASC 606), accounts receivable, fixed assets, and complex accounting matters.
Digital Transformation & Process Optimization
Drive ongoing ERP enhancements, accounting automation, workflow digitization, and reporting standardization to increase efficiency and control.
Partner with IT and Finance leadership to evaluate, select, and implement financial systems, tools, and integrations.
Establish and maintain strong data governance standards to support reliable, high-quality financial information.
Reduce manual work through automation (e.g., RPA, OCR, APIs) and continuous process redesign .
Internal Controls & Compliance
Design, implement, and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and standardized processes across a multi-site environment.
Monitor and assess key internal controls; ensure compliance with organizational policies, control frameworks, and audit standards.
Oversee the monthly accounts receivable reserve process and ensure adequacy of financial estimates.
Responsible for the maintenance of an effective control environment under SOX 404 for the accounting operations overseen. This includes both key and non-key controls and extends to the timely updating and modification of control design where necessary and the oversight of control remediation activities should exceptions be encountered in testing.
Cross-Functional Leadership
Act as a strategic advisor to senior leadership, offering insights on the accounting impact of new service lines, system expansions, and strategic initiatives.
Collaborate with Revenue Cycle, FP&A, Treasury, and Operations to enhance data flow, transparency, and alignment.
Team Leadership & Talent Development
Provide leadership, coaching, mentorship, and professional development to both direct and indirect team members.
Build a high-performing remote workforce by using modern collaboration tools and structured communication practices.
Oversee hiring, performance evaluations, career progression, training, and capability building within the accounting team.
Foster a culture of accountability, inclusion, continuous improvement, and digital fluency.

Minimum Knowledge and Skills required for the Job
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or abilities required to perform the job.
Education and Experience:
Required
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including a minimum of 5 years of people leadership.
Experience working in a large, multi-site organization.
Demonstrated success implementing or optimizing ERP systems and technology-enabled accounting processes.
Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP, internal controls, healthcare revenue, and operational accounting.
Strong leadership capabilities with experience managing remote teams in a digital environment.
Proven ability to drive process improvement, automation, and standardization at scale.
Preferred
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) strongly preferred.
Experience in organizations with $1B+ in revenue; $3B+ or more ideal.
Background in accounting transformation, financial automation (e.g., RPA, BlackLine, Trintech), workflow tools, or data analytics.
Experience with large ERP platforms (e.g., Workday, Oracle, SAP) and modern BI tools (Power BI, Tableau, etc.).
