SUMMARY
This position will assist in the organization, facilitation, and delivery of all academic courses/programs and student services to the current and/or potential student at the HCC Technical Center in Atchison, Kansas, and the surrounding area assigned to the Atchison Center.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESinclude the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Assist in developing a comprehensive regional schedule, marketing plan, and calendar of recruiting/registration events for the Technical Center.
- Assist in the registration events at the Technical Center and ensure that all rosters, reports, forms and payments are submitted according to HCC policies and deadlines.
- Keep accurate files and type correspondence.
- Act as switchboard operator, transfer calls, and take telephone messages
- As the receptionist, greet visitors and inform the public about courses offered, procedures for enrollment, accept payments for tuition and shop work, etc.
- Maintain accurate information in student files, assist with allied health enrollment, and set up testing appointments.
- Assist in registering students for both HCC Regional Center courses and HCC Technical Center programs.
- Communicate with high schools regarding student attendance and upcoming events.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Project a positive image for HCC with a polite, helpful mannerism.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES May supervise part-time student employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience Associate's or technical degree preferred. Two years secretarial/related clerical work preferred. Strong computer skills with ability to troubleshoot routine IT issues. Proficient in set-up and operation of presentation equipment.
Language Skills Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos. Ability to compose and type routine correspondence. Must have good people skills. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and employees of the organization
Mathematical Skills Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as fees, discounts, percentages, and other costs associated with enrollment, financial aid, book rental, etc. General knowledge of accounting checks & balances.
Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Other Abilities and Skills Good organizing, coordinating, and decision-making abilities. Ability to retain composure under pressure and through frequent interruptions. Ability to work without close supervision and handle a varied job situation. Should have a service orientation and positive attitude toward students, employees, and community people who interact with the College.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
