Maintenance Technician
Performs general maintenance tasks for City Hall and responds to directions from direct supervisor or designee.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs general maintenance for City Hall.
- Participates in the necessary cleaning, painting, plumbing, masonry, general carpentry repairs, minor repairs to boilers, plumbing and air conditioners.
- Maintains proper supplies and equipment to perform required duties.
- Responsible for maintaining the exterior grounds and landscaping of City Hall, in cooperation with the Parks Maintenance Division, including but not limited to mowing, trimming, watering, weeding, cleaning grounds of litter, sweeping sidewalks, and snow/ice removal.
- Maintains the cleanliness and organization of the basement of City Hall.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
- Moves furniture and equipment and performs set-ups for events and other activities.
- Reports need for major building repairs to direct supervisor and assists in identifying sources for materials, including making vendor contacts.
- Maintains cleanliness and aesthetics of the elevators.
- Collects and transports recyclables to City's recycling facility.
- Assembles furniture or other equipment as needed.
- Handles deliveries accordingly.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Skills in general facility maintenance, inventory and supply.
- Ability to troubleshoot building maintenance problems and resolve issues.
- Ability to perform tasks with minimum supervision.
- Ability to monitor HVAC system and boiler and follow directions.
- Knowledge of electrical and plumbing repairs.
- Knowledge of air conditioning, boiler/burner operations, lighting systems and cleaning chemicals, along with other basic equipment found in the office environment and exterior of building including motorized equipment and power tools.
- Thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and corresponding safety precautions necessary for the safe performance in using equipment to complete assigned tasks.
- Ability to respond to communications after working hours if needed.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Three years related work experience required.
- Valid driver's license required.
A variety of equipment for maintenance and custodial duties. Operates various machinery, equipment, hand and power tools, shovels, clippers, etc. on a frequent basis to repair and maintain the facility. Computer and other office equipment. There may be times when a personal vehicle may be required.
Work is performed in a variety of indoor and outdoor settings where weather conditions can vary from extreme heat and cold. Some exposure to dirt, dust, fumes and noise. Physical activity includes prolonged standing, bending, stooping, lifting, walking and uses arms and hands frequently. Frequently lifts 10 to 20 pounds. Must have the ability to lift 75-100 pounds independently and up to 100 pounds with assistance. Must have the ability to carry and maneuver a 12' or taller ladder. Some overnight or day travel may be required for business purposes.
High School diploma or equivalent required. All applicants must pass a drug screening and criminal background check prior to employment. Any job offer made by the City is contingent upon the applicant passing the drug screening and background check.
